Talk about the guitar, and it’s not only the teenagers who love it, but music enthusiasts across varied age groups will vouch for the simplicity and the fun generating factor of this instrument.

Guitar is meant for everyone, young and old, big and small, boy and girls.

There are also other reasons why Guitar is one of the more popular musical instruments around.

Still Popular & Going Strong

There is no doubt that the guitar is a very popular instrument. One of the reasons for that is, it sounds good, and secondly it can be learnt easily. Just tune into the radio and you will hear it in action, no matter what the genre of music is.

Believed to have originated in Spain, the guitar has also undergone a lot of changes over the years. Through various stages of evolution / variations, it has now become what it is today – a much-sought after instrument and a regular on the modern music scene.

In fact the guitar, along with drums and the keyboard / piano is what completes most modern music equipment set.

Various Kinds of Guitar

If you are here on this site I’m sure you would know that there are several kinds of guitars, the most common being the acoustic and electric guitars. But then there are several more variations of these such as classical, 12-string, and so on.

We’ll talk about all of these here, and how they differ from each other. We’ll also talk about what amps to use, in case you are eying an electric guitar.

Your First Encounter

It doesn’t matter whether you are a kid or an adult who wants to play the guitar, everyone starts on an inexpensive guitar and work their way ahead.

Most of us get interested in guitar because someone around us plays the guitar. Be it at home, your neighbor, your friend circle or your co-workers, if you are surrounded by guitar players, then it is very likely that you would also want to learn to play. It is but natural, isn’t it?

Now, there are many who would say that it is too late to learn. They would just hear others play, wish they could also play, and do nothing about it. On the other hand, with the right mental attitude you could say that “Hey, if I start learning now, probably in a year or two even you would know how to play and start jamming with your friends”. I would say, that is indeed the right attitude and one must definitely give it a try.

And you really don’t need an expensive one to get started with. You don’t even have to worry if the beginners guitar is going to sound crappy. The best part is most of the cheaper ones sound quite decent, and going in for a package means you will have all the necessary accessories and an amplifier as well.

Gradually You Become Knowledgeable

Again, this is the natural path; you learn more with time. And I don’t mean only the playing part; I also mean your knowledge about guitars, their construction, the way it sounds, and so on. With time, you start appreciating the finer aspects of any well made guitar.

In the beginning, it is difficult to notice differences between any beginner guitar and even a thousand bucks Les Paul, but with time you’ll start hearing the differences.

Nicer Guitars are usually more responsive, hold notes longer and stay in tune longer. With experience, you will be able to see the differences by playing a budget guitar and a high-end one side by side; they do sound different.

Choosing a Guitar

We will also talk about the popular brands, their price range and what factors to look at before buying one.

Most of the time it is not the make that you need to analyze, it is the style of music that you like to play or intend to learn. A person interested in Rock may choose a different guitar from someone who is interested in classical, folk or country music.

Once you’re clear on that part, it is easier to select a guitar that is best for you.

    Learning to Play

The guitar is a melody as well as a rhythm instrument, it is available in acoustic as well as electric versions, and to top it all it is a very portable instrument.

Have you always wanted to play the guitar but for some reason never got yourself started on it?

Did you try taking lessons for some time and then quit because you thought it was going nowhere? Did you feel that there was something wrong with you because you simply could not get the strings to sound right?

Well, you might think that this has happened only to you but the fact of the matter is that you are not alone.

Lot of students who try to learn to play the guitar give up too easily! Most of them, in fact, don’t even try to find a guitar teacher. A guitar teacher can provide guidance & knowledge can help prevent quitting due to frustration & perceived lack of progress.

But even if you were taking lessons, it’s quite possible that you could be falling short in learning to play the guitar and the reason for that could probably be the kind of style or technique you are using.

Lot of guitarists who have learnt to play the guitar for several years will tell you that it’s the technique that made them stick around with their guitar. And here on this site we are going to help you sort out that aspect.

But the bottom-line for you still remains that you need to devote some time on a regular basis to learn to play the guitar. Any other way, will lead to failure and repenting many years down the line that you missed the opportunity to learn to play this wonderful instrument.
